Title of the Taste Lecture: Understanding President Trump: What a GPE Perspective Can Reveal

Speaker: Prof Peter BEATTIE, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Social Science

Abstract:

The election of Donald Trump came as a shock to informed observers in the US and around the world. A year later, there are still unanswered questions about what his election means for the US and the world, especially the US relationship with China. Global Political Economy offers an interdisciplinary lens through which to view this complex question. This session will cover: material and ideational influences on Trump and his administration, the political psychology of Trump and the diverse groups that support him, national and international economic forces that will affect the Trump administration’s policies, and the effects of the news media.
