Dr. James F. Downes is a Co-Director of the Think Tank, the Center for Research & Social Progress (Italy) alongside a Consultant in Political Risk Analysis. He is currently affiliated as an Adjunct (Part-Time) Lecturer in the School of Governance and Policy Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, teaching on the MGPE, MPUP & GPGC Programmes. He is also a Research Fellow in the Global Europe Centre at the University of Kent and a Consultant at Instats.
Previously, Dr. Downes was a Professor in Comparative Politics and International Relations, alongside being the Head of the Politics & Public Administration Programme at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. He was previously a Lecturer in the Department of Government and Public Administration at CUHK, alongside a Visiting Scholar on the European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong and has taught at The University of Hong Kong.
For his outstanding teaching, Dr. Downes received the prestigious CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award and the Faculty of Social Sciences Exemplary Teaching Award in 2022. He also previously worked in the Market Research industry as a Public Opinion Pollster.
Dr. Downes conducts regular analysis and media interviews for CNBC and South China Morning Post.
