As someone born and grown up in Brazil, South America, travelling half of the planet to study GPE in Hong Kong is like a big adventure. The city impressed me not only with its international outlook but also with its openness, which blends different cultures together. The free and dynamic academic atmosphere offered by the Chinese University of Hong Kong served as a strong foothold for me to gain first-hand knowledge of the East Asian region in particular China, which is no doubt the engine of global economic growth in the twenty-first century. Through a variety of courses spread across different disciplines, I could equip myself with the necessary analytical tools to study international economy and politics from macro and multi-dimensional perspectives, hence setting a solid foundation for my future career. While the programme lasted for a year only, it ended up to be a very rewarding experience which I cherish a lot. Certainly, going to the antipodes of Brazil was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The MGPE Program at CUHK gives great freedom to the students to choose the topics they are most interested in and at the same time provides a good overview on the current political economy topics. For those who are interested in studying China, the course has great subjects in China’s economy, foreign politics and history. At the same time, students can make the most of Hong Kong’s international environment and endless opportunities.
Also, as an international part-time student and living in Hong Kong for quite some time, I had the chance to meet a new side of Hong Kong and enjoy the nice and relaxed atmosphere at the CUHK campus.
I recommend the MGPE program for students from all countries and backgrounds who are interested in acquiring comprehensive knowledge on international economic and political affairs. Being capable of understanding and expressing an opinion on the constant changes in today’s world is an important skill for all areas of employment, and the MGPE program definitely gives you the tools for doing that!
