I came to this program in search of a different path in life. I was drawn by the Asian-centric focus of the coursework, and the bustling city-center of Hong Kong just a short MTR ride away. I was looking to get away from the cruel cold world of corporate society, and step into the public realm where I could make a “difference” in the life of ordinary people.
Through my studies thus far, I have learned that I have a passion for emerging economies, and, in particular, the problem of extreme wealth disparity. I hope to pursue this passion through work in NGOs, socially-responsible businesses, or the public sector.
I have also been able to meet some really interesting people through my time in MGPE. I have noticed MGPE students’ desire to create a sense of community from day one. Whether it’s relying on each other for coursework, or going to get a drink at Tin-Tin Bar, the students and staff have been extremely welcoming.
Overall, my experience at CUHK has been everything I thought it would be and more. As Steve Jobs said “You have to trust in something; your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well worn path, and that will make all the difference.” I hope that more people from abroad will step off the worn path and choose the MGPE program.
